Meta is significantly upgrading its video-editing app, Edits, by adding a built-in AI assistant and launching an upcoming desktop version. Announced at an exclusive creator event in Los Angeles, these major updates aim to keep creators deeply anchored within Meta's ecosystem (Instagram and Facebook) while intensifying competition against ByteDance's CapCut.
🛠️ Smart Analytics & AI-Driven Ideation
The new AI assistant is designed to eliminate creative blocks for content creators. Rather than forcing users to manually decipher complex performance dashboards, the AI directly analyzes Instagram metrics—such as view counts and video retention rates. It then leverages this data to suggest tailored content topics and recommend video concepts based on real-time performance trends and trending audio. This rollout follows a similar AI creator tool introduced for Facebook users.
🖥️ Seamless Desktop Workflow
Moving beyond its mobile-only origins, Edits is expanding to desktop platforms. The upcoming PC/Mac version will provide creators with precise timeline controls and the comfort of editing on larger screens. Crucially, Meta will allow users to seamlessly sync their ongoing video projects across mobile and desktop devices, offering a direct alternative to CapCut’s established desktop experience.
📈 New Features & Proven High Engagement
In addition to the AI and desktop announcements, Meta is immediately rolling out several public updates:
- Beta Tab: Gives creators early access to experimental features and a direct channel for feedback.
- Advanced Insights: Offers deep audience demographic breakdowns and identifies peak engagement hours.
- Inspiration Search: Allows granular topic searching within the app’s trending audio and video feed.
According to Meta, the platform is already yielding substantial results. Content processed through Edits achieves a 10% higher save rate and a 2% higher reshare rate compared to standard video content. Currently, the AI assistant is undergoing closed testing, while the cross-platform desktop application is marked as "coming soon".
