Windows 11 Build 23493 is now available for download in the Dev channel of the Windows Insider Program. It has many exciting features, such as Windows Copilot preview and native support for popular archives – .rar, .rar, .7z and more. The features included in today’s preview update should ship in the production channel with Windows 11 23H2.

Windows 11 Build 23493 has native support for archives such as rar and 7zp. This means you can right-click on any archive and extract the content to any folder of your device. Similarly, you can click on folders or files and archive them in the following supported archives:

  • .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.zst, .tar.xz, .tgz
  • .tbz2, .tzst, .txz
  • .rar, .7z

Microsoft says it knows at least one annoying issue in the update related to the archives support. For example, when you’re in File Explorer and try to copy files out of large archives or use Windows 11’s built-in “Extract All, ” the performance could be slower than expected.
